About IIT Ropar

The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar is one of the eight new IITs set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India in 2008. The institute has been ranked 3rd among the new IITs in overall and 5th in engineering category in the NIRF Rankings 2017, announced by the HRD Ministry. Since its inception, IIT Ropar has been proving its excellence in teaching and research at international level. The institute is regularly generating research funding from various national and international agencies. IIT Ropar houses outstanding faculty and students, who explore a wide range of innovative ideas in STEM areas. Apart from excelling in academics, IIT Ropar has made a mark on its infrastructure as well as it has been recently awarded 5-star GRIHA rating for the master-plan of its upcoming campus. The institute offers programs at UG and PG levels including 4-year programs leading to B. Tech degree in Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering; and M. Sc, M. Tech, M.S, Ph. D in several engineering, science and Humanities & Social Science disciplines. The curriculum followed at IIT Ropar provides a comprehensive science based engineering education, with a view to produce high quality technical leaders. IIT Ropar’s most prominent establishment of Technology Business Incubator (TBI) has been consistently providing mentoring and financial services to the aspiring entrepreneurs.

Key highlights of Achievements this year at IIT Ropar:
  • Student strength increased from 820 to 1120 and faculty strength jumped from 84 to 115 in 2017. Undergraduate intake jumped from 155 to 260 in 2017.
  • The Institute started B. Tech. program in Chemical Engineering, M. Tech. programs in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Engineering .
  • The Institute is planning to start a new program in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering from the next academic year.
  • The Institute crossed the mark of 1000 publications in the Scopus database.
  • The average citations per paper was recorded at 8.23, which is the highest among all new IITs.
  • “NASI-SCOPUS young scientist award” awarded to Dr. Rajendra Srivastava of Department of Chemistry in the field of Chemistry.
  • “NASI young scientist platinum jubilee award” awarded to Dr. Durba Pal of Center for Biomedical Engineering, in the field of Biomedical, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology .
  • Dr. Narinder Singh awarded with Prof. S. S. Sandhu Medal by Indian Chemical Society, Kolkata in the field of Environmental and Analytical Chemistry.
  • Mr. Navin Kumar, PhD scholar from Physics department has secured Bhaskara Advanced Solar Energy(BASE) fellowship.
  • 83.16% of students were placed in 2017. More than 90% of Computer Science Engineering, close to 80% of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering students have been placed through campus interviews. An average package of about 11.48 lakhs per annum offered to students this year.
  • Two institute level delegations visited Australia, Singapore, Canada, US and Germany establishing contact with 13 universities and research labs in these countries. MOUs were also signed with the institutes for research collaborations and exchange programme.
